Evolutionary ecology in-silico: Does mathematical modelling help in understanding the"generic"trends?

چکیده
Motivated by the results of recent laboratory experiments (Yoshida et al. Nature, 424, 303-306 (2003)) as well as many earlier field observations that evolutionary changes can take place in ecosystems over relatively short ecological time scales, several “unified” mathematical models of evolutionary ecology have been developed over the last few years with the aim of describing the statistical properties of data related to the evolution of ecosystems. Moreover, because of the availability of sufficiently fast computers, it has become possible to carry out detailed computer simulations of these models. For the sake of completeness and to put these recent developments in the proper perspective, we begin with a brief summary of some older models of ecological phenomena and evolutionary processes. However, the main aim of this article is to review critically these “unified” models, particularly those published in the physics literature, in simple language that makes the new theories accessible to wider audience. ∗ E-mail: [email protected] † E-mail: [email protected]

Multiobjective Imperialist Competitive Evolutionary Algorithm for Solving Nonlinear Constrained Programming Problems
Nonlinear constrained programing problem (NCPP) has been arisen in diverse range of sciences such as portfolio, economic management etc.. In this paper, a multiobjective imperialist competitive evolutionary algorithm for solving NCPP is proposed. Firstly, we transform the NCPP into a biobjective optimization problem. Secondly, in order to improve the diversity of evolution country swarm, and he...
متن کاملModelling nutritional interactions: from individuals to communities.
Nutrient acquisition is a major context for ecological interactions among species but ecologists and nutritionists have developed theory in isolation from each other. Developments in agent-based modelling, state-space modelling of nutrition and multi-scale modelling of landscape ecology provide the components for a new synthesis in nutritional ecology linking the nutritional biology of individu...
متن کاملTheory and speciation.
The study of speciation has become one of the most active areas of evolutionary biology, and substantial progress has been made in documenting and understanding phenomena ranging from sympatric speciation and reinforcement to the evolutionary genetics of postzygotic isolation. This progress has been driven largely by empirical results, and most useful theoretical work has concentrated on making...
متن کاملIn-silico Evaluation of Rare Codons and their Positions in the Structure of ATP8b1 Gene
Background: Progressive familial intrahepatic cholestases (PFIC) are a spectrum of autosomal progressive liver diseases developing to end-stage liver disease. ATP8B1 deficiency caused by mutations in ATP8B1 gene encoding a P-type ATPase leads to PFIC1. The gene for PFIC1 has been mapped on a 19-cM region of 18q21-q22, and a gene defect in ATP8B1 can cause deregulations in bile salt transporters...
متن کاملAn Investigation of the Generic Features of Research Articles Published in the Bulletin of Iranian Mathematical Society
In light of the understanding that the analysis of the generic features of different academic genres can enhance the ability of non-native members of academic discourse communities to understand, and where appropriate, to produce them, the present study aimed at investigating the dominant generic structure of research articles in mathematics. To start with a relatively narrow focus, a corpus of...
